After months of research and dealership visits, you've finally found the RV that feels like the perfect fit. Maybe you've heard that getting a third-party inspection before purchasing is a smart move, but you’re wondering, Where do I even start?
Let’s walk you through the process so you feel confident and prepared.
Understanding Types of RV Inspections
Before we dive into scheduling, it’s helpful to know the common types of inspections in the RV industry. For a deeper overview, check out our blog: What is an RV Inspection?
Here’s a quick recap of the most common types:
RVIA Inspection – Completed before the rig leaves the manufacturer
Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) – Performed when the RV arrives at a dealership
Technical Inspection – A system-based inspection done by a certified technician
Premier Inspection – A detailed, observation-focused inspection with formal documentation
At Suite Wheels RV, we specialize in Technical and Premier Inspections. This post will focus on the Technical Inspection, though the process is generally the same for both.
What’s Included in a Technical Inspection?
A Technical Inspection includes a full operational test of all major RV systems and components, documented by a certified technician. The process typically takes 4–5 hours on-site, depending on the unit's complexity and condition. You’ll receive a detailed inspection report within 24 hours of completion.
Step 1: Communicate with the Seller
Before you purchase or, better yet, before making a full payment, let the dealer or private seller know that you would like to have a third-party inspection. Most dealers now understand that buyers have leverage in the purchasing process. While a deposit may be expected, full payment is usually not required until your conditions are met.
Step 2: Coordinate the Inspection Details
Once the seller agrees to an inspection, you’ll need to gather the following details:
Available dates and times
Location of the unit
Facility access (indoor/outdoor, water, sewer, electric, etc.)

Please review the full list of Inspection Requirements and share it with the seller so they can prepare the RV accordingly. This ensures a smooth, thorough inspection and avoids any confusion on-site.
Next, fill out the Inspection Request Form on our website to get the ball rolling.
Please note: Suite Wheels RV works directly with the paying client. We do not coordinate directly with the seller, and we are not responsible for setup at the inspection location. Your cooperation with the seller is essential to ensure everything is ready. If you have further questions about this step, we are happy to guide you through it.
Step 3: Booking and Payment
Once we receive your form, we’ll reach out as soon as possible. We’ll tentatively hold the earliest available appointment for up to 48 hours.
At that time, you’ll receive an invoice by email. Full payment is required before we officially confirm the appointment. After payment is received, we’ll send a booking confirmation via text and email.
What to Expect on Inspection Day
On the inspection day:
We will first check in with the seller.
A Technical Inspection takes approximately 4–5 hours, while a Premier Inspection may take 8–10 hours, depending on the unit’s age and condition.
Neither the buyer nor the seller needs to be present. In fact, we prefer minimal interruptions to ensure accuracy and focus.
If a major issue arises, like a soggy roof or a cracked frame, we’ll give you a call right away. Otherwise, you can expect to receive the full report within 24 hours of the completed inspection.
After the Inspection: Reviewing Your Report
We’ve created an interactive sample report on our website, which you can view here: Sample Technical Inspection Report
This resource is a great way to familiarize yourself with the layout and types of findings.
Because RVs are complex machines, questions often come up after reviewing your report. That’s why we offer a free 30-minute follow-up appointment to go over your results. We encourage you to review the report ahead of time and note any areas where you’d like more clarity so we can make the most of our time together.
Final Thoughts
An RV is a major investment, one that should bring joy and adventure, not surprise repairs. A third-party inspection gives you peace of mind and a better understanding of your new home on wheels.
We’re here to help you make a smart, informed decision. If you’re ready to schedule your inspection or have any questions, reach out to us today!
